We got tired of the scroll too.

Filmatic started as a complaint. You finish work, you want a movie, and forty minutes later you have watched three trailers and gone to bed. The catalogue is enormous and none of it is aimed at you.

That is not an accident. A streaming service has two jobs, helping you find something and keeping you watching what it already paid for. When those conflict, the second one wins. It is the one attached to the licensing bill.

What we built instead

Filmatic has no catalogue to defend. It owns no rights and does not care which service you end up on. So it can do the one job, which is working out what you like.

The mechanism is simple. Loved, seen, or skip. Each rating updates a model of your taste. Movies and shows are compared using the text written about them, so it can tell that two movies share a preoccupation even when no genre tag says so. Your profile never leaves our database.

The team behind it

  Started Filmatic and owns the brand. Built and runs the Filmatic Instagram account.

• DamianTechnical

  Leads the technical side. The Filmatic app was his idea, and he created the algorithm and the framework the app runs on.

• DanielBusiness

  Runs business operations and designed the app's UI. Brings the ideas for what to improve and where to grow next.

It is a small operation. Support replies come from a person, and the roadmap moves wherever seems most useful that month.

What we won't do

• Sell data that identifies you. Your ratings are the most personal thing here and they are not for sale. See what we build from your data, which draws the line in the language a regulator would hold us to.
• Make it hard to leave. Export your history and delete your account from inside the app, without asking us. Here is how, including the little that survives deletion.
• Pretend to be bigger than we are. You will not find invented user counts or testimonials on this site. When there are real numbers worth quoting, we will quote them.

Movie and TV metadata and poster artwork come from The Movie Database, and remain the property of their respective rights holders.This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Streaming availability is supplied by Watchmode and changes often. The recommendation model also draws on similar-title data from TasteDive, which is not displayed on this website.
