Reelgood is the most complete streaming directory available. Over a hundred services in a single view, decent metadata, IMDb and Reelgood scores side by side, and — unusually — a working remote for Roku and LG televisions. The free-to-stream section is the best in the category and genuinely worth using.
None of which helps if the problem is that you do not know what you want.
Coverage and choosing are different problems
A directory’s job is completeness. It succeeds when nothing is missing, which means the interface has to present a very large number of items and give you filters to cut it down. That is the correct design for “is Heat streaming anywhere” and the wrong design for “what should I watch”.
Filtering is work you do. Ranking is work done for you. A directory hands you filters; a recommender hands you an answer. Reelgood does have recommendations, and they are perfectly decent, but they sit on top of a catalogue-shaped product optimising for breadth.
What Reelgood does better
Breadth, decisively. If a title is streaming in the US, Reelgood knows where.
Free-to-stream. Its handling of ad-supported and genuinely free services is the best here, and that is a real saving rather than a novelty.
TV. Episode tracking with alerts for new episodes. Filmatic does not do television at all.
The remote. Controlling a Roku or LG TV from the same app you browsed in removes a small daily annoyance, and no recommender does this.
